An illustrated guide to the gods, spirits and stories of West Africa, from the Yoruba, Igbo, Edo, Fon and Akan traditions.

Overview
Codex of Myths is an illustrated, immersive guide to the deities, spirits and mythic figures of West Africa. It focuses on Nigeria (Yoruba, Igbo and Edo) and neighbouring traditions (Fon and Akan), with Mami Wata as a pan-West African figure.
It treats the gods as part of living traditions, not fantasy lore. Every figure follows the same template: domains, attributes, core myth, how they are honoured today, their presence in the diaspora, relations and sources.
The site includes the five pantheons and their supreme beings, a filterable index of thirty figures, a page for each deity and an interactive, keyboard-navigable map of how the figures are related.
